Abstract

Bivalve mollusks are filter-feeding organisms that play a vital role as bioindicators of marine pollution. By accumulating contaminants such as heavy metals, microplastics, and persistent organic compounds in their tissues, these organisms provide an reflection of environmental conditions. This ability makes them valuable in environmental monitoring programs for assessing water quality and the impact of human activities on marine ecosystems. Their use highlights the importance of bivalves in implementing control and management measures to mitigate pollution effects on coastal communities and marine biodiversity.
